I have a 65 beetle I just purchased a motor that I was told only had 200 miles on rebuild I put a new sp intake and all the tins from my old motor with my alt doghouse but I cannot get it to run I heard it run in a video I have checked spark compression timing starting guild please help I'm around every day if you can come by I'm a disabled vet

So your 2 1/2 hour drive is to far to help a fellow bug guy that sounds lame I drive that far just for a part thanks anyway I was thinking about joining you guys but I'm going to have to rethink k That now

Nothing lame here. This is a good group of guys. My suggestion was to help you possibly find someone who was bear and could help you sooner.

Make sure the engine is at top dead center. Check this with your big pulley. Then put your distributer to the #1 firing position. This will get your ignition in a "close" position for starting.

Turn the mixture and idle screw on your 30 pict all the way in and turn both out 3 full turns. This should get the carb set up for starting. Do not put any RTV on the carb base gasket.

Now try firing it up. Did you put new metal O rings at the manifold/head bolt together? This could cause a vacuum leak.

Also try hand pumping the fuel pump to make sure it's primed and ready. Or take the fuel line off the carb and stick it in a jar. Crank a few times to make sure there's fuel coming out.

Thank you for the reply I got it to run today put my 009back in with a new coil I have to pump the pies out of it but once it starts it idles but its blowing blue smoke right now engine sat a long time hoping it get better with time.hope to see you all this weekend

Pumping the gas is flooding the motor with gas. That's why you have blue smoke.

Try turning on the key on, tap the gas pedal to open the choke, then crank it over. If there isn't a vacuum leak it should fire right up.

Have you taken it for a drive?

If I don't pump it it will not fire at all I changed the oil put 3 quarts of 20W 50 and a quart of Lucas and it smoke worse now then before the oil change it smoke all the time worst when you accelerate I feel like I am driving a mosquito truck.

That's too much oil. 2.5 quarts will get you to the full line on the dip stick. It sounds like you have about 3.5 quarts of oil in the motor. That'll make it smoke. Also try 10w-30 or 10w-40 oil. Also the straight 30wt or 40wt works good too. You don't want too thick of an oil.

Check your timing too. That might be off and making it difficult to start.
